SIX DEGREES WITH CHEF GERARDO VÁZQUEZ LUGO

Another Chef video…… OH NO!!!   NO! Here we only show the dish of the day in passing. In fact, methods and menus are just broached over. We merely have a chat with Mexican renowned Chef Gerardo Vázquez Lugo and he talks about himself and the restaurant he owns and runs; Nicos in Mexico City. . Never heard of him?  Get out a bit more then, for South America has an extremely sophisticated rating system for their top chefs and Gerardo ranks 37 at this moment and rising. He is known all over the world and travels extensively, basically introducing the rest of us to the ‘Slow Cook’ ethos.

Never heard of Nicos Restaurant either? Unless you are an extensive gourmet traveler yourself or indeed South American, then you can be excused. However, if you are South American and never heard of Nicos, then line up against the wall to be shot amigo, since you must be an impostor.

Who Does What/Admaze Media actually produced a series of programmes for Bahrain Television back in 2015.  The series was to be named ‘Six Degrees Bahrain’ and just like the term suggests, interesting guests of all genres and nationalities from far and wide geographical locations were on-line for a chat, each having some connection to Bahrain no matter minor or remote. Chefs were not really on the list of subjects, although we have met with Wolfgang Puck a few times and interviewed him while having dinner with his team.  Great guy and very interesting. So Wolfgang was the only one on the Six Degree Bahrain menu, until now. Why? Well, television stations from the smallest 3rd World setup to the pathetic BBC empire have long run out of ideas for programmes without creating shock, horror or just downright filth and inane reality shows, desperate for our attention – and then there’s the endless cooking programmes with the manufactured celebrity chef – all a bit tedious. However, saying that, ‘Who Does What’ is not going to pass up an opportunity to bring any interesting part of the trade or party to you. In fact if you think you are interesting enough one way or the other, get in touch.

Anyway, this is what we have here with Gerardo. Who does What was invited to lunch at the posh Capital Club, high in the sky a million floors up overlooking Bahrain in the Financial Harbour. On the menu, many dishes from the Slow Cook domain, all prepared by Chef Gerado and his travelling partner Claudio Poblete Ritschel, who is the Director General – Grupo Culinaira Mexica and a good few other things by the sound of it. It was a media bash and all part of a Mexican Food Week which had venues all over the Island (apparently).

(By the way; Six Degree Bahrain never aired – um…er.. aahh!  No no no, we are not talking Network chops after the pilot failed or anything like; Six Degrees Bahrain was scheduled for air several times, but never got as far as the transmitters. Let’s just say; ‘beyond our control’ and severe pocket famine. There, that was a nice way to say; ‘No money honey’).
