CANCER CRUSADERS

Duncan Wilson has been featured before on Who Does What. It was a couple of years ago during a Great British Week promotion held in Bahrain. A team of rugby players came out flying the Cancer Pink awareness flag aimed specifically at butch men who probably feel it a bit wimpy to go get themselves checked out for prostrate cancer, or any other cancer come to that.

Here Duncan and John (John Cox, first timer on the rounds) are once again on the awareness trail as they perform with their team at the Bahrain Rugby Club before touring on to Dubai and other places. Chairmen Medhi Honor brought them along to Upstairs Downstairs restaurant for a chat after hours.

On a note, Up n’ Down as it is now called is not part of the campaign, but on the day in question, Bahrain experienced a very rare downpour and the Rugby club itself was a bit waterlogged and planned matches cancelled. So why slum it when our good friends at Up N’ Down opened their doors allowing us a quiet setting. (Thanks to Up N’ Down John for patiently staying behind.  Although the featured interview is only about 15 minutes, we actually stayed there for several hours chatting about the subject and Duncan being extremely passionate about the cause revealed some deep and compassionate moments in his life which started him off on the trail.  A little too personal for Social Media, so it has been archived.  Still, listen up as there is a message here.

Apart from that, Up N’ Down is a client of ADmaze Media, who handles all their Social Media – and very very well for them one might add.

Upstairs Downstairs dates back decades as a well known watering hole for expatriates. It was originally a small converted villa and it was packed day in day out as the restrauranteurs were a couple we guess.  The late Randy Jack, was so well known and a magnet. Having gone through a complete metamorphic rebuild from those very old days, the restaurant is now quite big with several sections to it and indeed live music every night. It sits within what the Bahrain Authorities call the ‘Tourist Zone’, which means a tipple or two goes well with the menu.
