German Unity Day Celebrations – Bahrain 2019

October 2019: Germany has everything and is good at everything, not only football. To listen to Ambassador Kai deliver his speech in flawless English is also typical of the level of education and new culture this now back to basics country has aspired to, having been broken in two at one stage, with a wealthy West and a very poor oppressed East divided by an Iron Curtain. This is what ‘Unity Day’ is all about, but for the young(ish), ‘Unity Day’ is just a celebration in the ever present march towards Globalism, but it really does mark an incredibly significant History, which many might prefer to forget and a day when the aftermath, like the wall itself was dismantled.

As of this video, 30 years have zoomed by since what was effectively the ‘end of the cold war’.  Seems like yesterday, but amazingly Germany has adapted incredibly well and a whole generation or two are merrily oblivious to what went before.

For the non-Millennials who well remember post ‘World War 2’ and the Great Bear of the USSR pitted against what we called ‘The West’, sometimes the tensions were high with many fearing nuclear conflict. The Eastern Bloc and in particular East Germany isolated from the West by a hard border wall, where citizens were shot dead if they tried to escape, to thriving West Germany. Seems an unbelievable notion now, but it was very real.

Much to the distaste of the then East German Chancellor Erich Honecker, remarkably and to much disbelief that this was happening before the world’s eyes, Mr. Mikhail Gorbachev, then the Russian Leader allowed the Berlin wall to be breached without a shot being fired. As they say, the rest is history and once more Germany was unified and the old Soviet Union dismembered with the new Russian Federation emerging in its wake.

Perhaps a delayed communications failure, whatever, it was allowed to happen for the greater good and Gorbachev is seen by the West as a hero and a brilliant man, but reported to be unpopular for his weakness by many an old Russian,

However, the hang-over from those days is forever present, with the West’s ridiculous indoctrination of Russia being blamed for everything from the Election of Donald Trump to a bad cocaine harvest in Colombia, plus some animosity to Germany from the Great Bear’s old folk for the past – and not without good reason.  But when all is said and done, at least there is now reasonably free movement across the huge expanse of continental Europe and Asia and we are all supposed friends again.

For Historical reasons (and a LOT of tourism) some remnants of the old Berlin wall can still be seen around what was once ‘Check Point Charlie’.  Footage here is archive material from Whodoeswhat.tv.

Know your history, this is one element we should all be taught.German Unity Day Celebrations – Bahrain 2019,

Still we witness the hang-over from those days, with the ridiculous indoctrination of Russia being blamed for everything from the Election of Donald Trump to a bad cocaine harvest in Colombia.  Older Russians still hate Germany with a vengeance and not without good reason, but at least there is now reasonably free movement across the great expanse of continental Europe and Asia and we are all supposed friends again.
