118th PHILIPPINES NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATIONS – BAHRAIN

On the 118th celebration of their Independence the Filippino community get down to it.  It seems everyone in the Philippines plays an instrument or sings and fashion shows are a must, so organising a

an event like this is second nature.

There is a park in Bahrain which has a natural spring water attached and over the years the area has developed into a sort of amusement facility.  Adari Park is the name given to it and accessibility and parking is reasonable so why not hold a fiesta there suggested the Filippino community.
It was a full on day, with a sort of bazaar selling lots of dishes native to the Philippines and trinkets (some hand made) too boot. In the atrium area a stage was errected and lengthy shows took place.  A fashion show was one of the features, the only difference being that the clothing, or let’s say costumes appeared to made out of paper. (It brings a whole new meaning to the lusty expression; ‘I wanna rip your clothes off’).  Judges had to choose the best and some very good prizes were offered.

A guest appearance by ‘heart throbe’ Filippino actor Edgar Allan Guzman made the girls go a bit funny (and a lot of the boys too by the look of it).

Local singer Glen Balite belted it out and boy can he sing.  He has won several awards from what whodoeswhat.tv can tell and has YouTube videos. The bain of our lives now is the iPhone or similar. Who Does What turns up with a full ENG kit and expensive cameras, yet we are overshadowed by an army of ‘instant expert’ stringers recording everything on their mobile phones and more disturbing, they are getting paid for it too. The quality is horrendous in most cases as they go about destroying someone’s prowess. Perhaps www.whodoeswhat.tv should offer up a free session for Glen and film him properly as well as record the audio.  He is so very good, but he needs to address the bootleggers in the audience.  Just sayin’.

As usual, the jovial Philippines Ambassador; H.E. Alfonso A Ver was on hand, deeply into his people and lapping up the festivities.  Good on him!  As a footnote, we hope this settles the score between us as H.E. Alfonso was noticeably angry that www.whodoeswhat.tv did not cover the Philippines National Day dinner celebratioin.  Um.. er… well…it was an oversight both ways.  The Embassy did not invite us, asssuming we have carte blanche to turn up at all events with open arms (as Alfonso reiterated), but because of that, we didn’t know the event was on. Duh!

Moral to the story:  Make sure www.whodoeswhat.tv is on your mailing list!  Actually, this often happens with establiments assuming we will be there and we then we get balled out for not attending when it was not our fault.
