UNITED NATIONS 70TH CELEBRATIONS – BAHRAIN

October 2015:  In the 70th year of the United Nations. A bit of a birthday bash was organised in so many countries with land marks bathed in blue light. In Bahrain,  Ministers, Ambassadors, contributors and ‘The people’ along with media (that’s us then) were invited to Dinner at a posh 5 star digs – the Diplomat Radisson Blue hotel to be precise.  Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry representative Shaikh Abdulla gave a speech along with the UN country representative Peter Grohmann. It was then birthday cake cutting time. It seems the entire patronage were on a diet since as nice as the cake looked, nobody was seen to take a slice.
As a tribute, an exhibition of black and white photographs were on display, most depicting various memorable events over the years since Bahrain joined the UN.

No birthday cake takers maybe, but in keeping with the philosophies of the United Nations; one being to irradiate famine, the fine dinner buffet which followed was certainly well devoured.
