SUNA KOCAL – TURKISH ARTIST. EBRU: TIMELESS REFLECTION OF TRADITION

This will amaze you! Or shall we say; ‘Admaze you’.  Suna Kocal was in Bahrain at the invitation of The Turkish Embassy and the Ambassador Hatun Demirer who happens to be on the Whodoeswhat.tv  ‘good people’ list. It was all in collaboration with the Turkish Cultural and Social Society and the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities.

The video was shot at one of her many workshops which Suna conducted.  Enthusiasm abounds and lots of citizens both local and expatriate turned up for these events and if you watch the video you will see why.  The art of Ebru or ‘marbling’ as it is called in English, involves what looks like water, oils or blood, a few pointed sticks, a lot of old newspaper cut up, a surgeon like steady hand and a great deal of magic to keep the painting on the paper.  All that is explained anyway, so take a look.  Within the video is also many exhibits of Suna’s other artistic works which were on display at the Bahrain Art Centre.
